Life Under the Power Lines

After the transformer explosion we decided we should probably cut down the trees from which the twig fell but before we could get to it the power company showed up again. We were thinking they were probably going to do it but no, all they were allowed to do was cut the stuff that was shorter than that, that was within a certain distance of the pole and lines. If we wanted the trees cut we would have to call a different crew for that so we let it go for then. A different crew would then come and load up the pile of stuff they cut down. Then yet another crew would come and bushhog under the power lines, which glad they got here before the guy did that we’d planned to have do it; save that money. All that work and they still didn’t take care of the actual problem that caused the power outage; oh, well. Meanwhile turns out one of the guys just had twins with one of them being born with just one kidney and that one not doing well so was taken to the Children’s Hospital for surgery, feeding tube, etc. Was quite dismayed to find the company they work for – the power company outsources this work, too bad they don’t get the union benefits so good they can go on strike over how many days notice to have to give for a day off work, with good union pay and insurance, unlike this crew – pays them so little they cannot afford to pay for the insurance they “offer” them so that little baby was taken care of by you and me; maybe I should get dh to increase his wh on his taxes to cover it directly. Just seems a shame. Baby’s doing good now though.

I'm a transplant, born up north but raised in the middle, now I'm down here where you don't see too many snowflakes; I'll probably post just about as often (here at least)
